We built this city...
not on rock 'n' roll, but on human degradation and misery, and the backs, blood, sweat, and tears of slaves. Photo from my German Flickr contact, KoenigNazgul from the Hitler Museum, Nuremburg, Germany. No German Nazis in Richmond, just Confederate Nazis - but our slow-motion Holocaust lasted at least 300 years. To paraphrase Albert Ellis, same hearse, different license plates. You'd have to search Richmond high and low, near and far, to find any evidence of its slavery past, and Doug Wilder had to go to Fredericksburg to get a slavery museum built. But, hey, there's a honking-big statue dedicated to the horses that died during the Civil War on the Boulevard. Richmond, a city that's got its priorities straight.
