Getaways aren't just for Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw
Mood:
Though I have known plenty of has-beens, from millionaires to building contractors, I know only one washed-up movie star. If she ever deigned to visit Richmond, I would advise her to stay at The Berkeley Hotel. They would treat her the way she feels she deserves to be treated, as a legend in her own mind. I spent some halcyon days at the Jefferson Hotel when I first moved to Richmond. But I am older and wiser now, and I prefer clean lines and modernity (I loove to hear Ms. Movie Star say "modernity") to the baroque and storied now - luxury without tears. Tastes great, less filling - casually elegant, elegantly casual - we can argue for hours, but The Berkeley gets my vote. When it comes to location, location, location, baby, the Berkeley has the Jefferson beat. Launching from the heart of Shockoe Slip, you're within easy walking distance of the State Capitol, Richmond City Hall, the Federal Building, numerous state offices, and entertainment and fine dining.
